A Summons is the beginning of the Foreclosure process through the Superior Court. This document is sent by your lender through attorney's hired by them.
You have 35 days from the day that you are served the summons to answer, If you do not the attorney's can file a motion asking the court for a final judgement and send the case to Sheriff Sale. You can still answer past the 35 days with an explanation to the court for the late response.
The best thing to do is answer the summons, that will give you the opportunity to participate in foreclosure mediation. This is a program that is supervised by the Superior Court and allows you to exercise options for home retention.
